There are a number of ports around the gulf from which it is possible to hire crew boats. There are ports in five States and a number in Mexico. Most companies offer fast services with the ability to provide boats at short notice.

The companies have safety procedures corresponding to the guidelines from the United States Coast Guard, Federal Regulations and Federal Communications Commission. They have well trained crews and strict maintenance schedules. Larger companies also tend to carry large numbers of spare parts to limit the amount of time their boats spend being repaired.

The Gulf of Mexico has a large petrochemical industry which has a high demand for transportation services. There are many crew boat companies fulfilling this demand.
