Royal Yacht Club Organizes A Sailing Camp.
The final 10 days of the year saw 18 young people sailing from Mumbai to Mandwa for a sail camp supported by the BSA - Bombay Sailing association and the RBYC - Royal Bombay yacht Club youngsters, during the last few days of the year. The children sailed from Mumbai to Mandwa.
To train the children a world class coach was appointed. The children were accompanied by their parents and resided at the BSA club house in Mandwa. It is not hard to learn sailing.. Sailing demands self-control and vigilance, qualities that after school activities can actually educate children today. When sailing, a child learns to appreciate and respect the forces of nature and see how the earth really works, and understand how we, as humans, must protect it.
They discover to rely on and develop their common logic, and instantaneously draw upon competencies that they learned along the way: how to calculate distance, how to interpret the weather conditions, how a sailboat works, how to make out landmarks and sea life. The learning approach taught at the camp is absolute natrual , a child hardly realizes he or she is learning; & thought he or she was only going out for a ride on a boat to enjoy the day.
Sailing is definitely gaining acceptance amongst Mumbai's population. They were completely overjoyed to choose sailing as their holiday & get into their little boats! Sailing exercises and drills kept the children busy for the next few days. This was a refreshing change of tempo for these children.
Since there is no Television or Internet at the Mandwa club house, the children had merely the sea & the beach & each other to keep them busy and occupied. This boating Regatta extravaganza was held on the 2nd Jan 2010. The kids sailed back to Mumbai from Mandwa. Upamanyu Dutta won the race
