The Pleasure Craft Operator Card, or pcoc, is required of all Canadians who operate motorized watercraft. Boaters must have their PCOC if operating any motorized recreational boat, even if the motor is turned off, and even if the motor is a trolling or auxiliary motor that is attached to a rowboat, or sailboat. The PCOC, once obtained, never has to be renewed, and never expires.

Boating safety is crucial so that each trip is successful and nobody gets hurt. Drugs cannot be taken, and safety equipment needs to be kept on the boat and in reach. Weather must be monitored continually and someone must be told where the destination of a trip is. Boats should never be overloaded and all rules and regulations always followed.
