There is a saying, that quality is in the design of the Fenwick fly rod. And it is hard to find people who will argue this point with you. They have been putting out quality products since 1952 when they were founded. And there seems to be not turning back for them. They have expertise in design and technology that keeps them leading the way in fly fishing rods.
You will sometimes hear that the old traditional models were better than the newer ones. This is merely a matter of preference and taste. The new rods are just as full of the Fenwick quality as the older ones. They continue to work on the technical design and action of their rods. During the decades of the sixties, seventies, and the eighties, Fenwick turned out a huge number of glass fly rods. You can still find many of them being sold today. A lot of these rods have become collectors items, and are getting more action from this than from fishing. But they were made with the Fenwick stamp of quality that makes them still sought after today. The first of these blanks were made by Grizzly, and featured aluminum ferrules. These were the O-rings. After that, Fenwick designed the ferrules by having a tip over top of butt fiberglass. It became known as the Feralite ferrule, and most all other rod makers fell in step and copied it.
They then began making rods with E-glass. These rods also featured the Feralite ferrule, but had a more crisp action in them, which made for better control in certain areas of the casting. Later on Fenwick improved on these again by adding some Fenglass line. They still made their blanks from E-glass, but the work was shipped over to China. The Western style grips were still on these rods.
Rarely do you hear negative things about Fenwick rods. If anything at all, you may hear someone mention the old rods being heavy compared to a rod from the market today. Of course, when these supposedly heave rods were made, they were considered very light. With technology bringing new materials and designs, lighter models have been made since. But nothing should be taken away from the older rods.
It was in the seventies that Fenwick made the leap from their fiberglass models to their new graphite models. The graphite was lighter, stronger, and even stiffer. This was also the birth of their infamous Lunkerstick that was the pride of bass fishermen everywhere. Fenwick was the very first to make the all graphite rods. This was done under the watchful guidance of Phil Clock.

From this originated their Fenwick Flippin Stick, another one for the bass fishing crowd to enjoy. They are constantly on the cutting edge of new innovations and design, staying up with their competitors in both saltwater and freshwater fishing.
